Egg-White Oatmeal

Recently, many patients have been noting eating oatmeal for breakfast on their food recall.  I think the cold weather makes us all crave something nice and warm.  The hard downfall of mosts oatmeal is that it only has ~6g of protein in one cup.  So in order to get a little more protein we need to add something else.  Adding nuts, peanut butter or protein powder is always and option.  But, now there is an even easier way to increase protein that won’t really change the flavor of the original oatmeal…egg whites!

Add ~1/2 cup of egg whites (or less depending on how much oatmeal you eat) to your normal oatmeal routine before cooking.  Mix together and cook for ~2-3 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds.  This creates a fluffier oatmeal, but packs in more protein.  Again, you should be cooking the egg whites with the oatmeal, not adding it in after.
