The body and mind go through multiple changes following surgical weight loss. A myriad of emotions can be felt during this journey. It is important to not only acknowledge the big changes that have occurred in your life, but also the smaller ones. This celebration doesn’t need to be a huge party, but can simply be self-recognition and positive self-talk.
Our Support Group for St. Francis Surgical Weight Loss discussed some examples of small changes that deserve credit followed by positive self-talk:
“I started exercising even though it’s hard after a long day at work.” “Outstanding.”
“I recognized when I was stress-eating and decided to create boundaries to alleviate destructive eating patterns moving forward.” “You’re a winner.”
“I made the decision to do something about my health.” “Way to Go.”
Remember that small changes are a big deal. Recognize them. Celebrate them.
