How to Make Your Best Resolution Yet!

Happy New Year! As each new year comes, many of us aim to make this next year the best yet. While that is a fantastic goal, we typically set very high standards for ourselves. Thus, many of our goals never truly come to fruition.

As we’ve discussed before, utilizing SMART goals is one of the best ways to ensure that you meet all of your hopes and dreams for 2017. SMART goals allow you to create intentions that are specific, measurable, attainable/agreeable, realistic and time-based. Specific means that your goal is well defined. Measurable includes numbers or a way to determine when the goal is met. Attainable/Agreeable means that you have agreed or settled upon the goal with yourself or those involved. Realistic is making sure that your goal has the ability to be achieved in the allotted time, with the allotted resources, etc. Finally, time-based ensures that the necessary amount of time is given to achieve the goal. Including these aspects can help you truly complete your resolutions for this year.

An example of a SMART goal is: I will walk for 30 minutes, 4 times per week for the next 4 weeks.

Also, remember that resolutions come in many different forms. Your goals are specific to you and don’t need to match others. As always, my goal for us all in 2017 is to continue to improve our health and quality of life. Look for SMART ways that you can achieve that this year.
