David G. Anderson, MD
Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgeon
Dr. Anderson is a board certified surgeon who specializes in bariatric surgery and minimally invasive surgery. He has successfully completed hundreds of laparoscopic and open gastric bypass cases, revisions, and sleeve gastrectomy procedures.
Dr. Anderson is a graduate of New York Medical College and completed advanced training at both Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla, New York, and Baptist Hospital in Miami, Florida. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgery, a member of the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery, and a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons.
Calvin Selwyn, Jr., MD
Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgeon
Dr. Selwyn is a board certified surgeon who specializes in all forms of bariatric surgery that are accepted by the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and offers a minimally invasive approach to all his patients. He has successfully completed over a thousand laparoscopic and open Bariatric procedures which include Gastric Bypass, Sleeve gastrectomy, Laparoscopic Gastric Banding Procedures, Biliopancreatic Diversion surgeries, as well as revisions of almost every type of weight loss procedure. Dr. Selwyn also has extensive experience in Robotics related to Bariatric procedures. He has performed Single Incision Surgery (SILS) for Bariatric surgery as well as his general surgery patients.
Dr. Selwyn is a graduate of the University Of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis, MN and performed his surgical training at the St. Joseph’s Hospital/Marshfield Clinic General Surgery residency program. He went on to complete advanced training at the University of Cincinnati Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellowship in Bariatric Surgery where he stayed on as faculty and was an integral part in achieving the University’s Bariatric Center of Excellence. Dr. Selwyn has since started a second Bariatric Center of Excellence at the St. Michael’s Hospital in Central Wisconsin where he was in practice for the last 10 years prior to joining Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital in early 2016.
He is a fellow of the American College of Surgery, a member of the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery, and a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons.
Kathy Koger, RN, BSN, CBN
Kathy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Clemson University, and has more than 25 years of nursing experience with a focus on surgery and women’s health. She is also a Certified Bariatric Nurse. Kathy has been with St. Francis since 2008.
She joined the Surgical Weight Loss team as Program Manager in March 2012. As someone who has lost a significant amount of weight herself, she understands the struggles that come with obesity, and is excited about helping patients reach their health lifestyle goals. Her favorite part of this role is being able to come alongside patients and be a guide and encourager as they make the journey to healthy living.
One the most rewarding parts of her job is being able to give patients their before and after picture and experience the joy they feel as they look how far they have come. It is truly rewarding to hear patients describe how much their life has changed since surgery.
Kathy enjoys an active lifestyle enjoys running and hiking. She has two daughters, Kayla, married to Matt, and Abby who is busy with school and soccer. She also enjoys spending time with her husband and loves being involved in the music program at her church.
Katie Horner, MS, RD, LD, NASM-CPT, CES
Weight Loss Dietitian and Exercise Specialist
Katie Horner is a registered dietitian, licensed in the state of South Carolina and originally from the Northern Virginia area. She received her Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition, Food and Exercise from Virginia Tech University. She then completed her dietetic internship with the South Carolina Department of Health right here at St. Francis. Katie has completed her Masters in Exercise Science and is a certified personal trainer. She uses her knowledge to further assist our patients with a healthy nutrition and exercise balance.
As the St. Francis Surgical Weight Loss dietitian, she constantly strives to provide individual service that focuses on each patient’s unique needs. Together, Katie and her patients develop a lifestyle that addresses their goals and can be adapted as progress is made.
Katie enjoys many activities outside of work, including swimming, playing volleyball and hiking. Her hobbies include reading and watching movies. Katie can be reached at 864-675-4818.
Quality Coordinator and Surgery Scheduler
As the Quality Coordinator/Surgery Scheduler, Shannon is one of the most important members of St. Francis Surgical Weight Loss Team. She is the person our patients spend the most time with, as she not only schedules surgeries, but also verifies insurance and keeps the lines of communication open. Shannon makes sure our patients stay on track to reach their goals!
Shannon is a Greenville native who has worked in the medical field for more than 12 years. She has an associates degree from Trident Technical College in Charleston, SC. She joined the St. Francis Surgical Weight Loss team in April 2012. She previously worked with the team at Carolina Surgical Associates as a Surgery Scheduling Specialist. Shannon has received accreditation from the American College of Surgeons, Bariatric Center Network, to be the Bariatric Surgery Clinical Reviewer for St. Francis.
Shannon enjoys spending time with her daughter Avery, husband Brian and extended family. Shannon, Brian and Avery and their two labrador retrievers spend most of their free time at their family home on Lake Hartwell.
Sabrina Richardson, LMFT-I
St. Francis’s Support Group Facilitator/ Licensed Therapist
Sabrina is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the State of South Carolina. She is a graduate of the University of South Carolina Upstate where she earned a B.A. in Experimental Psychology; and a Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Converse College.
Sabrina is dedicated to serving children, families, individuals and couples struggling with weight issues. Sabrina has a specific focus in the maladaptive cycles of compulsive overeating and binge eating. As a therapist, Sabrina’s approach centers on thoughts and emotions that determine our behaviors and impact the choices we make.
Sabrina is a member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT) and Obesity Action Coalition (OA). Sabrina is pursuing state and national certification as a Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapist and certification as an Eating Disorders Specialist.
